Welcome to our Internet site!

You are browsing in the site of the Centro Culturale Sloveno Stella Alpina Valcanale (Stella Alpina Valcanale Slovenian Cultural Centre) – Slovensko kulturno sredisce Planika v Kanalski dolini. We have enriched our site with information on our activities and on the cultural life in our valley. Enjoy your virtual journey through these pages.

An initial group of Slovenian-speakers in Valcanale (the members of the Stella Alpina Slovenian Association, the Glasbena Matica Slovenian Musical Centre, the Toma Holmar School of Music in Valcanale, the Ponce Fund for Slovenian Culture, and other private individuals), in February 1997 reorganized, widened and coordinated the activities of their institutions, thus giving rise to the SLOVENSKO KULTURNO SREDIŠ?E PLANIKA V KANALSKI DOLINI - STELLA ALPINA SLOVENIAN ASSOCIATION OF VALCANALE.

This enhanced the quality of the work carried out, and the success of the endeavours of the association is confirmed by the results of various research projects regarding the Slovenian-speaking community.

The work carried out in recent years also yielded positive effects in involving the people of Valcanale, where there is a solid consensus on communal living, the absence of nationalistic rivalry, and at the same time a widening of everyone’s living space.

To carry out its activities, the governing body of the Valcanale Stella Alpina Slovenian Cultural Centre - Slovensko Kulturno Središ?e Planika v Kanalski dolini strives to maintain:
- a professionally drawn up working program;
- a constructive cooperation with the recognized and representative organizations of the Slovenian minority in Italy (S.K.G.Z. and S.S.O.);
- an active and constructive cooperation with the representatives of other minorities and with the different entities of society present in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia Region;
- an active program aimed at nurturing the Slovenian language and culture among the inhabitants of the valley;
- a constructive cooperation with local bodies and institutions (such as the Municipalities of Tarvisio and Malborghetto-Valbruna, and the competent Consortium of Mountain Communities), which up to now have shown considerable interest and involvement in the work carried out by the Slovenian organizations, and
- an accountable drafting and management of projects, and transparency in financing the same.

The Valcanale Stella Alpina Slovenian Cultural Centre - Slovensko Kulturno Središ?e Planika v Kanalski dolini, by Regional Law 2112 of 21.06.2002, has been recognized by the Region of Friuli Venezia Giulia as an Association of primary interest of the Slovenian minority.
